What Toothbrushes for Tots is all About

I have encouraged my daugthers, ages 3 and 6, to think about ways they can help others who are not as fortunate as they are.  I wanted them to learn that they don't have to wait till someone else comes up with an idea to help, but that they can come up with their own idea.  As we have volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul, they have seen with their own eyes there are very needy families with children right in our own community.  They had recently visited the dentist and one of them suggested that maybe they could give children toothbrushes, hence the idea of toothbrushes for tots was born.  They then set about to make a flyer to give to family and friends.  Camille dictated to me what the flyer should say and both girls drew pictures to decorate it.  They have gone about distributing these flyers to families and friends.

All items collected will distributed to needy families in our communities via St. Vincent de Paul.

Can you ask them to post their advice on how to get a stubborn 3 year old to actually brush her teeth??

  2. This is such a worthy cause, bless your girls! I grew up dirt poor and didn't have a toothbrush until I was around 12 years old & then only becuase I bought it for myself from babysitting money. I often make donations to a local DV shelter and toothbrushes and toothpaste are always in my donation collection.

  3. Beautiful. This reminds me of when I volunteered in a Mayan village in Belize and the kids didn't have toothbrushes either. Their teeth were rotting. How great your daughters were involved.
